Connect Your Email — Complete Guide Series
The built-in Mail app on iPhone and iPad can connect directly to your mailbox using IMAP, so your mail, folders and read status stay in sync with every other device you use.
Have your full email address, mailbox password, and the IMAP/SMTP server names from your My Emails page ready before you start.
Step-by-Step
1
Open Settings
Go to Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account.
2
Choose "Other"
Since your mailbox isn't Gmail, Yahoo or iCloud, tap Other at the bottom of the provider list, then Add Mail Account.
3
Enter Your Basic Details
Fill in your name, full email address, mailbox password and a description (e.g. "Work"), then tap Next.
4
Select IMAP and Fill in Server Info
Tap IMAP at the top. Under both "Incoming Mail Server" and "Outgoing Mail Server", enter:
| Host Name | IMAP / SMTP server from My Emails |
|---|---|
| User Name | your full email address |
| Password | your mailbox password |
5
Save and Verify
Tap Next. iOS will verify the settings - this can take up to a minute. Once verified, tap Save. Your inbox will begin syncing right away.
Tip: if iOS complains it "cannot verify the identity of the server", it usually just means SSL is required - make sure SSL is toggled on for both incoming and outgoing servers under Settings → Mail → Accounts → [Your Account] → Advanced.
Frequently Asked Questions
iOS only lists a handful of large providers (iCloud, Google, Yahoo, etc.). Any custom domain mailbox goes through the generic Other option with manual IMAP settings.
Check Settings → Mail → Accounts → [Your Account] is toggled on for Mail, and see our troubleshooting guide.
